![]() | ![]() Tilted Against Our Elliptical Path
It's because we are tilted against our elliptical solar path that we experience today the shortest of days and tonight the longest of nights. Ironically we are not the farthest from the sun but will be closest in a couple of weeks from now.
The story is wrapped around the facts: the sun will return to our days even as our orbit takes us further away, and its warmth will stimulate our growth, but tonight, as we descend into this quiet peaceful longest night, we have time to reflect on where we've been and where we're going, to measure our losses and victories and prepare for more to come.
We share this journey with friends and family, all humanity, all life, on our spaceship of mud, water, hopes and fears; all of it, and us, hurtling through the infinite sky with no particular destination other than the joy of living.
I share this journey alongside all of you, my friends, my family. I am blessed to have you to love, to laugh and cry with, and I wish you the same blessings in the year to come.
