![]() | ![]() Double You
There is another you out there somewhere. No, I'm not talking about parallel universes; this person is in our cosmos, on this earth, somewhere among the billions of humanity.
They won't look exactly like you or speak the same language - you've got to make allowances; they grew up with different geography - I'm not sure you'll even recognize them, but they think like you, love like you, and share your deepest motivations.
I'm not talking about identical twins separated at birth, although the experience is similar. The same habits, quirks and even what can only be coincidence like spousal names; the same or similar occupations, interests and hobbies (allowing for cultural difference: along the Amazon they don't need a lawnmower, you probably don't own a machete.)
Some friends once came back from a desert retreat to say they'd met me out among the sand dunes. Apparently I had a van stuffed with coffee making supplies and they'd followed the smell of roasting coffee to find it. According to my friends, he talked like me, acted like me, and even had the same laugh.
My idea of coffee is decaf from Wendy's.
In basic training for the army, there was a cook who served us as we went through the chow line. The other guys said he was just like me. I wasn't flattered - I'm not all that good looking, I guess - but he seemed like an okay guy, from all I could tell going through the line.
Everybody has at least one double, some of us many more. If you relax your criteria, let your focus go fuzzy, they could number in the thousands. That's no coincidence: we're all of us humans the same, really, trying to get by as best we can with what we know or can find out about the world, looking for love.
Hello you.
